hey, Brian,
thanks for sharing the article – I’ve met lots of vegans since joining this community, and I always wonder what you/they do for protein – I eat a very clean diet in terms of no sugar or junk food, etc. – I also eat no wheat, red meat, or fish, and I eat tons o’ veggies – I’ve worked hard to fine tune the macronutrient balance my body seems to function best on, but I can’t figure out how to do it on a vegan diet and would love to hear what you eat – my body needs a lot of protein – I don’t eat soy – I had two breast cancer scares and got some well-researched info from two naturopaths about how unfermented soy products can be risky in that department, and I can’t stomach tempeh – I eat chicken, eggs, cottage cheese, and almond cheese – I’d gladly go vegan if I could find protein that worked for my body, both because of health and because I’m an animal lover
thanks for any thoughts on this, and happy life to you!
That article was very interesting. Who would have ever thought, a vegan football player, amazing. I'm not a vegan, and I'm not saying that I necessarily would like to be (I thuroughly enjoy fish) but I do respect that way of life and maybe someday I'll feel compelled to make that switch also but for now I'm ok with my fruit, vegetable, fish, and chicken (I'd really like to cut back on chicken) rich diet. Thanks for the article, it was a real eye opener.
Shalom, salaam may your path be well lit.

k: I'm going to let my goddess hook you up there as she's the resident nutrition guru! :)
l: awesome. (definitely cut back on the chicked, and if you eat it try to make sure it's not factory farmed–what happens to chickens is one of the most frightening things in the industry!)
love and health!

A recipe for you and your Goddess.
Vegan icecream, very easy no dairy, fresh and fruity.
Put a banana in the liquidiser and add frozen raspberries or other fruit of choice, blitz till it goes the texture of icecream and serve immediately. You will get used to how much fruit to banana makes the right fexture.
thanks for sharing this cool article! as a flip-flopping vegetarian i can still appreciate this information so i'm filing this in my good eats file in case i decide to commit to vegetarian diet again in the future ;)

I enjoyed watching Tony Gonzalez play footballl this past season. He was one of my favorite players before I found out about his vegan diet. Now, he is my favorite player. I have never understood all the fuss about so much protein. I quit eating meat about 7 years ago and am in the best physical shape of my life. I get my nutrition from plants, specifically, concentrated, all natural foods that have the plant enzymes still intact. I think that live enzymes are more crucial to fitness than mass quantities of protein. When you eat whole foods with live enzymes, your body wakes up, you have more energy and greater endurance. Read this article: Nutrition For Athletes Should Contain Live Enzymes
B - thanks sexilicious!!
Voice - I agree! Whole foods is where it's at.. and yes the live enzymes and nutrients are more important than the grams of protein - a lot of time we don't even digest the protein that we do take in which causes our bodies to become more acidic - which is where disease starts in an acidic environment.
thanks for the article too!
Zephyr - yummy we will have to try your recipe!
Kira - It is an experiment that is for sure. I have been an athlete for most of my life and have been fine tuning to see what works specifically for me so that I can feel amazing and perform at my best! I feel best with lots of veggies, lots of green juices and moderate fat, moderate protein and moderate to low carbohydrates.
There is no 'one diet fits all' :) Some people need more protein, some less, some high carbs, some low carbs, high fat or low fat. Everyone is different!
Do you feel better with more protein or do you have a belief that you need to eat more protein?
There are many ways that you can get enough protein
Lentils - brown, red, yellow
Beans - black, pinto, kidney, navy, garbanzo
Nuts and seeds - almonds, cashews, brazil, pine, sunflower, pumpkin and hemp seeds
and also nut and seed butters like almond and tahini
Grains ( have about 10-20% protein) - amaranth, quinoa, buckwheat, rice and millet are gluten free and others with gluten would be oats, barley, rye, wheat ( pasta and breads)
Hope this helps and if you have any questions feel free to send me a message - working on a vegan recipe guide so I can send you over some recipes if you want? :)
hi Alexandra, and thanks for this info – quick response here, and I’ll e-mail you separately, too – I definitely feel better with more protein – didn’t know how lousy I felt till I upped my protein and felt dramatically better (more in my body and also clearer thinking) – I think I’m just one of those people who needs a lot of protein, and I don’t digest beans well, so it’s a challenge – I pay attention to pH and eat a lot of alkaline foods to balance the protein I eat, plus testing my pH regularly…
