Hey guys:
First, thanks for all your help with the big ideas, the videos and everything else. Amazing.
I'm creating a biz around summaries of my favorite self-development books. I'll be launching a membership club at thinkArete in April and I'd love to get your feedback. Basic (still evolving) idea: $10/mo or $85/year will get you 4 new summaries a month (PDF + MP3) + interviews with the authors. I'm going to have 100 titles by the end of 2008 and 25 by the end of the month.
If anyone would like to receive free samples, send me an email at b [at] thinkarete.com and I'll send em over. My only request is that you let me know what you think!!!
I've put myself into a creative dungeon (don't worry, the lighting's nice :) to create my first wave of summaries. I'm at 17 so far. (titles below) Will have 100 by the end of 2008. :)
Fun fun fun.

I just wanted to encourage anyone who reads this to volunteer. The summaries are awesome, and I say that as someone who's never, ever complained that a book is too long or that I'd prefer a condensed version. These are a category unto themselves, though; much as I admire the thinkers listed above, in more than a few cases I enjoyed the thinkArete capsules better than the originals. Brian's versions have more personality, and they speak to you.
Go on. Try. You'll see just what I mean. :)
Ahh! Thanks, Siona!!! :)
Giddy to share.

P.S. For those curious souls: I have a nickname for Siona. I call her Double-Oh-Eight. As in 008. As in one more than Bond. Why? 2 reasons: 1. She got an 800 (!) on the verbal of the SAT and undoubtedly sat there bored after finishing it a half hour before everyone else. :) and, 2. She can read a 300 page book on a 1 hour flight from SF to LA. Who does that?!? Well, 008. That's who. :)
Hi Brian,
Reading the title, “Wisdom Book Summaries” I thought of Lex Hixon's distillations of the Prajnaparamita Sutra (Mother of the Buddhas), and of the Koran (Heart of the Koran).
Then seeing Siona's statement that “[your] versions have more personality, and they speak to [us]”, I recalled how Barbara Marx Hubbard undertook a rewrite of the four gospells and the book of revelation ('the book of co-creation'). She went through line-by-line asking, “What is the meaning of this for us today?”.
Then I remembered that my godmother's father, Fulton Oursler (senior editor of Reader's Digest for it's first 38 years), put the stories of the Bible in the form of novels with the aim of making them more vividly accessible to common folk.
If you come to feel that the older texts are applicable to this project the summaries and recastings given by Lex, Barbara, and Fulton may provide hints as to how the 'all-time best sellers' can also get the essence treatment.

awesome. thanks, K!!!
Dear Brian , the list is really impressive !!…looking forward to more on it……
A bibliophile and an incurable pansophist that i am, i really marvel at the incredible bibliolatry of your friend Siona !! : -) ….i just envy her ! :-))
THAT is a mouthful! nice. :)
You and Siona have something in common if you can throw that out. :)

I gave you the sandwich concept. What else do you need?
Quit ….. nevermind. :)
Oh, and giving you the thoughts over on that “other site” already. I assume we can do that instead of the emails…
hehehehe
Send me an email if you want to see the actual summaries themselves. sexy pdfs. who doesn't want some of those?! :)
Yeah, ok. Give us the “sexy” info AFTER you hawk zaadz and get married. I see how it is.
If it didn't order up and harness so much negative energy, I'd be bitchin' up a storm…. er … there's something cool about bitchin' up a storm. There may be a poem in there.
I digress - email on the way.
hah! watch that bitchin’ or you’ll be orderin up a sandwich you don’t want, yo!! :)
I get the luxury of living with this sexy man and reading all of these yummy notes!!
And, I agree 100% with All of what Siona said up there! :)
So go and get your Arete on and email Brian to get the goods!!! 1 I know how much I have benefited from reading them and 2 I know how much he loves to inspire people!!
What a deal eh? :)
Loving your intentions……as i would love to see one of my favorite books on your list …that Henry Miller classic, “On Turning Eighty”……i am looking forward to reading and adding my most favorite book to my huge library ….“I am Brian”.…..having a blastX10 reading between the lines til then…..
i would love (love love love) if there would be some sort of mechanism for us to request books we'd love to read summaries on. i have over 100 books sitting next to me right now that i know i'm not going to get to anytime soon. would love to let you know what they are so you could consider exercising your insane genius on them. :)
carefull, carefull my degree is in psychology where all the reading i did was to understand the different perspectives on sanity and insanity and the genius of relationships between people, family, community, state and nation….WE are all born an individual unique artistic genius that i know for sure. And i know for sure that if you stay in the SPACE of beautiful pure perfect love between us all, within as without …that insane and sanity issues are all hilarious states of perception “passing by”……my laptop died last week so i actually checked out a dozen newly released books for the week….i was saving “No where to go, nothing to do” for last ….knowing the message of master linji within my heart of hearts, maybe i'll never read another book, (except yours) ……and may even stop listening to the statue he carved of himself in China in the seventh century which found its way to my office. Time is our greatest asset, our ultimate wealth, our most precious gift to share…..making love to a book of ideas and concepts seems dim in comparison to filling time making love to the most integral integrated beloved ”thou” reflecting back all the geniusness….http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1888375728?ie=UTF8&tag=mtvernon-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=
1789&creativeASIN=1888375728…..angels wanted to co-create and co-design systems of utopia….peacecity.com….reading or writing not necessary, essential capitalism a must…..you are such an amazing inspirational genius….loving the dance that is creating a new earth.
r: :)
jon: what do you want, sir?!? I'll queue em up! :)
thanks to everyone for your amazing feedback so far!!! :)
