SAD Diet = Cancer Diet

Posted on Nov 2nd, 2007 by Brian : PhilosophersNotes.com Brian
Newsflash: the standard american diet (sad) increases your risk of cancer.

Recent report of over 7,000 studies leads to some obvious conclusions:

Eight-step plan
The American Institute for Cancer Research has released these eight guidelines for avoiding cancer. The last six are eating related:

  1. Be as lean as possible within the normal range of body weight
  2. Be physically active as part of everyday life
  3. Limit consumption of "energy-dense foods," foods that are high in calories, fat and sugar. Avoid sugary drinks.
  4. Eat mostly foods of plant origin, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains and beans
  5. Limit intake of red meat and avoid processed meat
  6. Limit alcoholic drinks to one per day for women, two per day for men
  7. Limit consumption of salt. Avoid moldy grains or legumes
  8. Aim to meet nutritional needs through diet alone, without dietary supplement
Good to see this as I've always believed the best way to cure cancer is to prevent it (duh).

You know, someone just wrote me at work this week and suggested the theory that cancer is actually a fungus and should be treated like you treat fungal infections. He indicated that there was a doctor that treats cancer with a basic (as opposed to acidic) treatment similar to baking soda. I have already forgotten the name of the doctor, but here's a link to one of the first search results on “cancer fungus.”

At first I was completely skeptical, but it only took a couple of minutes of scanning the information for me to become open to the suggestion.

Did the Am. Inst. For Cancer Research actually suggest that we not supplement our diets? I saw the article you linked to, and they did list that as a suggestion. That's absurd. Today's soils are depleted of minerals, which also means that our vegetables are also depleted. It's nearly impossible for the average American to obtain enough vitamins and minerals from even a good diet, like the one you suggested above.

Is the Am. Inst. For Cancer Research prepared to replace all the Coca-Cola and other carbonated sodas in the nations' public school vending machines in order to help fulfil its own suggestions? I'll hold myself back from ranting against CC.

“This is a pattern for living with the potential to save millions of lives. If these recommendations were adopted around the world, scientists estimate it could prevent about one-third of global cancer cases.”

I know! That's what I thought too! I haven't gone through the hypothesis enough to know for sure one way or another, but perhaps it's worth considering.
Cancer is a stress related disease
Well, I suppose it can be a stress related disease, but that's not all. Children who live near farmlands end up with leukemia at an alarming rate. There's a hypothesis that the pesticides that are dropped from airplanes can cause leukemia and other cancers. There are also theories that cancer is caused by asperteme, an artificial sweetener used by many chewing gum and soda manufacturers.

Yes, if everybody could implement only a few of the changes on the list, the effects on the body would be far-reaching. Nutrition doesn't just affect how your body looks, it affects  how you think and make decisions.
As far as taking responsibility and solving our own problems, yes, that's true, too. It's also true that I don't go to pta meetings at the elementary school, I don't attend any community meetings, so that makes me part of the problem by your argument.
