Just got an email (below) from our friend Dan Millman about his upcoming movie based on his best-selling novel "Way of the Peaceful Warrior." A lot of you have read it. Awesome book.
Quick personal tangent: The book has the sub-title: "A book that changes lives." That definitely lived up to its billing for me when I read it nearly six years ago. I was 25 or so, running eteamz with 45 employees when the market crashed (well, technically I was the President as we had just recruited Steve Wynne who was leaving Adidas as their CEO to join us as our CEO (cool Wall Street Journal article on it)). Rather than going out to raise another $10-$15 million and then going public, we brought in an investment bank and cut our team back from 45-15 employees and positioned our company for an eventual sale to Active. Muuuuch longer story.
Anyhoo, it was a, um...how shall we say it? A "growth" period. (It takes sh*t to make a seed grow, eh?! :)
A friend recommended Way of the Peaceful Warrior. I read it. Changed my life. And, it, along with a few other books and a general sense that I needed to figure "it" out drove me into reading as much as I could and my eventual departure from biz, the few year sabbatical as a philosopher, thinkarete, etc.
(Story is getting longer...I have a habit of that, don't I?!? :)
One of the first things I did when I left Active was read How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci. (OMG genius/fun book!) There's an exercise in there that has you meditate on the question: "How can I get paid to do what I love?" (Main idea: in da Vinci's time there weren't as many distractions; hence, a lot more time for contemplation. Want to think like da Vinci? Think more!)
I wrote the question down on a piece of paper. Poked a hole on the top of the paper. Put some dental floss thru it and hung it up on my shower head while I took a bath and contemplated it. (prolly more than you wanted to know)
anyyyyyyway. I had all these visions of getting paid to understand the universal truths, inspiring others to do the same and hanging out with the world's leading thinkers and my favorite teachers. At the time, my top three favorites were Dan Millman, Tony Robbins and Paulo Coelho. (Have you read The Alchemist yet, btw?! Must!)
I was on Dan's site one day and noticed he had private consultations (which he no longer does). So, I decided to schedule a call and chat. Fun. Half an hour into our chat we were talking about writing a book together, I went up to San Francisco and jumped on his trampoline a couple months later and wound up taking care of his web site and becoming friends. Even more fun.
THAT is a meandering way to get to this:
Dan has a movie coming out. It's REALLY good. Here's the email he just sent out.
Enjoy!
(Oh! One more thing: We're talking to the marketing geniuses behind the flick and might do some community stuff for the release. You guys interested in creating some cool pod-like meetup thingies to meet other people in your area to go to a premiere?!?)

Hey Bri
We had an early successful release of Celestine Prophecy here in Nashville. I don't think it is a stretch of my imagination to say our spiritual center (Science of Mind) would be very interested in this. We have a spiritual cinema which we feature once a month, and we are active in the Nashville Film Festival this upcoming week.
We are all about this kind of film and the message it brings.
Read the book. Awesome!
Give me the thumbs up and I will pursue it.
Giddy Up!

Sweeeeeet! That trailer rocked. I think I saw it once in the theater too. Let me know if you want me to organize anything pods-wise, Bri. I'm at your, Dan's, and everyone's service.
Synchronisations are sparkling around my environment as a continues stream of love and compassion. It is a WONDER.
I wrote this comment this morning on Shyloh's blog and I would love to share it here:
Thanks for existing!
L.
Awesome B! You know I will get people together for this. Just let me know what, where, when. What can I do to help?
Yea! This movie is gonna be ultra-saucy like. Check out my new Pod based on the movie!
Brian,
I'm letting you know I read your post and am sending this message to Dan's assistant regarding “Way of the Peaceful Warrior”.

Angela,
My name is Randy White, and I helped make “The Real Dirt on Farmer John” a success in Portland, OR. I read about “Way of the Peaceful Warrior” on Brian Johnson's (CEO of Zaadz.com) blog about his friendship with Dan Millman.
I have not yet read the book or seen the movie, however if you plan to release it in Portland, I work at Portland's biggest progressive - peace minded radio station, AM620 KPOJ. After “The Real Dirt on Farmer John” was advertised on KPOJ, the repeat turnout at the theatre was much better than the advertising agency even hoped for!
If I may be of assistance to you and Dan in spreading the good news about “Way of the Peaceful Warrior” in Portland, I would love to help the messages get out to KPOJ's large open minded and accepting audience of over 140,000 loyal listeners.
Respectfully,
Randy White

I would be up for attending a pod like event for the opening in the Bay Area, but I can't, unfortunately, volunteer for planning it as I am currently working out of state, but please keep me in mind for invitations for a Bay Area event in….say….maybe….Berkeley????

If the movie is going to be anything like the book, it is in line with the current paradigm shift that we are experiencing in the world at this time. Do you think that Dan's movie can include some positive overtones for our co-existence with animals? I know it is not directly brought up in the book “Peaceful Warrior”, but I am sure Dan can have an input. If help is needed to promote the movie or brainstorm a bit in the Dallas area, I am here to help. Light out, Harmony!!!
Love the enthusiasm, guys!
Obi's pod is rockin, so definitely check that out to organize parties in the six initial west coast release cities!
Harmony: the film's already filmed/cut and ready for release…no overt positive overtones for our co-existence with animals per se, but, as individuals leave the film inspired to live the life of a peaceful warrior, I have no doubt their consciousness will be one step closer to living with compassion for all sentient beings.
A great source for wonderful movies based on compassion for animals: Tribe of Heart.
SUUUWWWEEEET! thanks for this shout out Brian. i haven't read that classic book yet. but the cover of that book stuck in my mind years ago while i was looking for books on Out Of Body experiences. do'h! ok, i won't go into that tangent. i'll leave the tangenting to Brian.
anyway, i'll definitely check out the movie, especially if Natalie Portman, and/or Scarlett Johansson will be in the lead role.
speaking of How to Think Like Leonardo Da Vinci, i used those principles to come up with DIK with BIG Compassionate Balls. go figure.
and to answer the same question: “How can I get paid to do what I love?” i think i blogged about it a month ago. see Follow My Bliss. well, i actually answered the WHAT, i'll leave it to Serendipity to reveal to me the HOW and then some.
~C (for Compassionate BIG Balls)
P.S. as i was writing this, i realized that blogging is one of the best out-of-body experienceswithout taking seeds. hmmm, whatever.
Cool beans, I am definitely checking out the “Tribe of Heart”, and can't wait to sneak a peak at “Peaceful Warrior”. Is it just me, or are there just more and more movies out there focusing on the paradigm shift I was talking about? V for Vendetta, The Secret, Celestine Prophecy, even DaVince Code. We are going more and more main-stream. That is why I love ZAADZ so much.
Brian - I love the way you write. I think I'm sitting right next to in the local coffee shop shootin' the breeze about really cool stuff. And of course, you go off on nearly as many tangents (all interesting by the way) as I do…

Hey Brian:
Thanks for putting this one back on my radar screen. Its one of those books I've meant to read forever, but haven't gotten around to. I picked it up a couple of days ago, and I'm most of the way through.
I'm learning a lot and having a good “literary experience” too. Although I found some of the insights of The Celestine Prophecy to be helpful (particularly surrounding synchronicity,) it was a bit tough to get through in terms of the writing style.
“Warrior” is definitely a better written book, and has lots of good life lessons to boot (no ordinary moments!)
I would definitely be into participating in any kind of events when it comes to Toronto. I've searched a bit on the net, but so far haven't seen anything about a Toronto opening.
Thanks again
Rigzin
Old movie but I haven't seen it yet. As I saw from the trailer it looks pretty interesting. Well, I'll ask my boyfriend (which works at a cinema) to put it for me, so I don't really need tickets, this time! By the way, what site for tickets do you use? I like http://www.viagogo.co.uk/ because it has all sorts of tickets.. sports, theatre, etc. Nice, huh?:D
